Even when the former head of the DNI James Clapper lied under oath, in front of Congress, that he found no evidence of any collusion and Senator Diane Feinstein played it close-to-the-vest when pressed by CNN about proof she’s seen of Trump-Russia collusion and Bob Woodward’s book Fear is coy about the collusion evidence.
In fact, the racist, bigoted and dangerous right is trying to lie and confuse people by claiming, without evidence, that the Obama Administration, the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign and the Democrat National Committee combined to collude with Russia in a failed effort to prevent Donald Trump from becoming President.
They try to point to debunked theories like Clinton Records subpoenaed by a House committee investigation showed that Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the debunked Trump dossier that alleged Trump-Russia collusion, was funded by the Clinton campaign and Democrat National Committee through the law firm Perkins Coie. According to documents obtained by Judicial Watch, the FBI also contributed more than $100,000 to Fusion GPS for the research. And McCain, through a staff attorney of his Arizona State University McCain Institute for International Leadership, may have also contributed financially, in addition to his assist by hand-delivering the dossier to then-FBI Director James Comey.
The FBI then used that phony dossier to obtain a FISA warrant to wiretap Trump operative Carter Page and possibly others. The dossier and the narrative created around it set the stage for the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Trump-Russia collusion.
Of course there is all sorts of foreign money affecting all aspects of public and private life in the United States.
China (and its puppet-state North Korea) is particularly pernicious. Throwing our money – stolen via awful trade deals and Intellectual Property (IP) heists – back in our faces.
Saudi Arabia throws oil money all over the place. In Washington, Hollywood, the Silicon Valley – and beyond.
Heck, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dumped oil money on Matt Damon – to help him produce the anti-fracking movie “Promised Land.” Get that? Damon made an anti-oil movie – with oil money. Damon was happily the UAEs’ Useful Idiot – the less oil we produce, the more the UAE can charge for its oil.
We’re a $20 trillion economy – with a $4-trillion-a-year federal government. Nations the world over will ceaselessly seek to influence…everything we do.
“Congressional investigators have identified the San Francisco-based Sea Change Foundation as a major conduit of Russian financial support for U.S. environmental groups.
“The ‘paperless money trail’ that flows from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government into a shell company in Bermuda and from there into the Sea Change Foundation has been the subject of several reports from the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.”
Has this Russia money been used in attempts to affect our domestic policy? Of COURSE it has.
“‘Russia benefits from stirring up controversy about U.S. energy production,’ Lamar Smith said in a press release.
“‘U.S. energy exports to European countries are increasing, which means they will have less reason to rely upon Russia for their energy needs. This, in turn, will reduce Russia’s influence on Europe to Russia’s detriment and Europe’s benefit.
“‘That’s why Russian agents attempted to manipulate Americans’ opinions about pipelines, fossil fuels, fracking and climate change. The American people deserve to know if what they see on social media is the creation of a foreign power seeking to undermine our domestic energy policy.’
“Smith’s report describes the Russian scheme to use nonprofit entities to influence and sway U.S. public policy and public opinion against fracking. The evidence in the report shows that Russia has been using U.S. environmental groups to spread what Smith aptly describes as ‘propaganda’ to undermine America’s natural gas revolution.”
And of course – if you’re attempting to affect US policy…you are absolutely attempting to affect US politics. Because one behest the other…which begets the other…which begets the other…which….
Russia-funded US “nonprofit entities’…propaganda…use(d) to influence and sway U.S. public policy and public opinion” – will of course also influence and sway how the public votes.
