Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson compared slaves to immigrants during a speech to HUD staff Monday afternoon.
Carson, in his first talk to his HUD staff, claimed that slaves were like immigrants who were paid less.
“That’s what America is about. A land of dreams and opportunity. There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less,” Carson said at the meeting.
He then added that slaves had the same desire to pursue their dreams in America.
“But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land,” Carson said.
