Russia Tweets Pepe the Frog Meme

January 10, 2017 by Zoe Dupont

The Russian Embassy in the UK just posted a picture of internet meme “Pepe the Frog” on Twitter.

In today’s papers: pundits call on @Theresa_May to disrupt possible Russia-US thaw. No trust in Britain's best friend and ally? pic.twitter.com/4TNf9x8PCh

— Russian Embassy, UK (@RussianEmbassy) January 9, 2017

The post led to a stampede of right-thinking justice warriors explaining that the Russian Embassy had just shared a “white nationalist” symbol.

@RussianEmbassy hi there, reporter here. are you aware of that image's popularity among white nationalists?
